warm lights cool shadows

Am in such a decrepit state today that i actually dragged my sorry ass to bed today around 4 for a bit of a nap. But once i got there and laid down, i saw this, so i had to get up to photograph it, and well, no napping. How i suffer for my arts.

Loved the way the light played with the freezing mist last night

175 on a Theme by Peter Boivie

Peter Boivie, Swedish Rock Star and composer extraordinaire, made a theme to the dive i did last weekend. I'm incredibly honored and thrilled he did, and immediately adjusted the video to include his theme.

freedivingphotojournalism

Am happy not only with my result at last weekend's competition, but also with the company i had at mi casa for that competition, and with some of the pictures i took during.

Here's Nanja, who did a new national record -again

And Maria before her dive

Middle-aged breathholders are remarkably similar

11 minutes of fame

Did a 175 dynamic during a competition, which was a national record until the next competitor swam, and that was Mr. van Reet Pape, who's the real champ right now, as he became the first Dutch guy to do 200.

Still, a fine PB and a fine way to start the new year. That surface protocol is cleaner than a washing machine in a pool of soap.

Major Tom to ground control

This arrived yesterday. I'm sure it'll go beyond the speed of light, if only i can figure out how to start it. And how to get in.

I love that line from 'Love, actually'

up a smurf's butt

Please don't ask me how i took this shot; i promised Vanity Smurf i'd be discrete.

Lots of abstracts lately, mostly because the weather is foul and i'm not much inclined to go outside.

Push

with much force

a bedtime story

Once i died and went to heaven. I get there and St. Peter's at the gate, smokin' a butt.
He says "What the fuck are you doin' here?".
I say "I'm dead!".
Says he "But you don't exist!".

watch & focus

Been messing around with focus lately. Last night i was shooting my watch, because i loved the way the light hit it, and i'm not sure if i prefer the normal focus or the messed up focus.

Larry, the Northern wind

All weekend a very vocal wind was coming in from the North. Almost literally coming in; it was hard to keep the place warm, and there was a nearly perpetual whooshing and whistling -a bit like having a drunk uncle over in the next room, who thinks the garbage cans outside are prostitutes and keeps trying to call them over. I decided to name him Larry, for if i had such an uncle, he'd be Larry. Here's a picture of Larry being vocal

It's very likely that i'm prejudiced in this matter, but i think my nephew has the most beautiful hair in the world

What a lovely combination. And they make it look so simple.

Netherlands in the arctic

Apparently, i live at the polar circle, otherwise i couldn't have made this shot, and my hands and cellphone would not have frozen as i was taking it

Weird that Nokia, a Finnish brand, can't handle these light conditions and snow -you'd think they'd be used to it by now.

got Lucky

When i started taking pictures, i felt lucky when i got a good shot. The more pictures i took and the more i learned, i began to understand that you can't really force luck, but you can tune certain circumstances so that you have the best shot at getting the best shot, so you need the least amount of luck to get lucky.

Here's my collection of what i consider to be my most lucky shots so far:

why i'm wrinkly

No, not because i'm an old fart, you bastards, but:

1) i do spend a lot of time submerged in water, and

Diablo Rojo

The Humboldt Squid, or Red Devil, is notoriously hard to photograph underwater-and notorious in general, for they can be aggressive during feeding, so much so that they sometimes eat each other.

but i found an easier way: just hold your hand over a flashlight.

still a big fan

First thing i had this morning was an orange. One of the things i shot last night was this. Orange phase showing no signs of weakening.
